The Fostoria Glass Company began operations in Fostoria, Ohio, on December 15, 1887. This site was chosen because natural gas at a recently opened field in the area had been offered at a very low cost to attract new industries. However, the field was so short-lived that in 1891, Fostoria moved to Moundsville, West Virginia, where there was an abundance of gas and coal, and other needed materials were close by.

During its first ten years, Fostoria made pressed ware, but early in the century Fostoria realized the importance of developing fine quality blown stemware.

Book in excellent condition, very good price as I bargain shopped. The book is a must for the Fostoria American collector. Received quickly.Purchased as a gift for a collector.

The book is excellant reference for this style glassware. The pictures are clear and easy to compare the glassware object . The only problem I found is "I already have the book!" So always check your library before buying.

Book was in pristine condition and helped me find what I was missing from this pattern

Fostoria AAmerican Line 2056 is a real neat book and I have really enjoyed looking it over for the idea of finding the pieces that I have and looking for additional pieces and the price listed for the pieces is a real help. The pictures are fantastic and the descriptions are good. I only wish that I knew how to measure the pieces of glass to match their measurements. It's great to have the individuals to share by allowing photographs of their collections to help us beginners. Such treasures! Thanks for a job well done to the author, Leslie Pina, Ohio.

This book is wonderful to look at and browse through! It has a great deal of information and MANY full color pictures. It is a delight to be able to see so many well photographed pieces in one volume. The price ranges are listed right with the picture and descriptions, so it is a quick and easy reference. This is a good book for those that are in search of a moderately priced volume for their personal reference, as well as for the dealer.Note: the author, Leslie Pina, has many other volumes on glass that may be of interest to you.

Fostoria is one of the best known and admired names in American glassware. Probably more brides and homemakers in America have received gifts of and purchased glassware made at the Fostoria factory, in Moundsville, West Virginia, than any other glass company...

Fostoria Stemware: The Crystal for America Second Edition Fostoria Stemware: The Crystal for America Second Edition

For years I've perused books on Fostoria, hoping to identify my mother's stemware, without luck until I got this book! It's all here! Mom's (#6014), a pretty little sherbet glass I got in an antique store (#5087), and some pieces I bought for a friend at a roadside stand. Finally! A very informative reference at a very good price!

Glasses can be both functional and decorative, so it should be no surprise that people have taken to collecting them. "Fostoria Stemware: The Crystal for America" is a complete and comprehensive value guide, masterfully compiled and in a new and revised second edition. Covering glass making and collection across over four hundred years of American history, "Fostoria Stemware" is a must for any collector of crystal glasses.

This is one of the best general books on Fostoria I have been able to locate thus far. Well organized and useful. Great pictures.

If you have stemware and need to identify it, this is the book for you. There's a goblet index in the back which refers to the main book by numbers. I have found it invaluable for quick reference. Having ounces and height given really helps to identify which pieces one has. Each pattern is given production dates, and if it was made in several colors, production dates are given for each color.

Fostoria: Identification and Value Guide to Etched, Carved & Cut Designs, Volume II Fostoria: Identification and Value Guide to Etched, Carved & Cut Designs, Volume II

This book was a gift for my brother-in-law and he loves it. He buys older glass pieces and sells them on ebay. He considers this guide invaluable.

Well, I went ahead and bought this book despite my reservations. I am not exactly sorry I did, as I find the information useful, but only in combination with other reference books. The line drawings of the designs are alright. The patterns are organized alphabetically, which is great if you know the name of the pattern you are looking for...I don't. However, I think that with time, it will be a valuable resource. Definately not for the novice collector.

The Fostoria Glass Company, started in 1897, is one of the most famous names in glassware. Collectors everywhere search for this beautiful crystal, often choosing several favorite patterns. Ann Kerr has created an unbelievable reference for these collectors in a user-friendly, informative book which showcases Fostoria's delicate and quality glass...

In 1924 the company was one of the first to start a program of national advertising, and the first to produce complete dinner services in crystal. Besides their regular line of blown, etched and pressed patterns they did custom work such as providing glass with government seals for officials in Washington. All the presidents from Eisenhower through Reagan ordered glassware from them. At one time Fostoria was the largest maker of handmade glassware in the United States, employing nearly 1000 people. The AMERICAN pattern, introduced in 1915, is still being produced by Lancaster Colony (who bought the Fostoria company in 1983), making it the most successful pattern in the history of glass making. Fostoria's business peaked in 1950 when they made over 8 million pieces of glass.

In 1986, after struggling with an outmoded plant and foreign competition, Lancaster Colony was forced to close the Fostoria Company, ending nearly 100 years of glass making.
