Uranium glass is glass which has had uranium, usually in oxide diuranate form, added to a glass mix prior to melting. The proportion usually varies from trace levels to about 2% by weight uranium, although some 19th-century pieces were made with up to 25% uranium.
Uranium glass was once made into tableware and household items, but fell out of widespread use when the availability of uranium to most industries was sharply curtailed during the Cold War. Most such objects are now considered antiques or retro-era collectibles, although there has been a minor revival in art glassware. Otherwise, modern uranium glass is now mainly limited to small objects like beads or marbles as scientific or decorative novelties.

The Big Book of Vaseline Glass (Schiffer Book for Collectors.)ReviewsThis is a book on Vaseline glass, but a lot of the pieces in the book are from Europe, not the U.S. If that is what you are looking for, then this is the book for you. The book has great pictures and good info on the chemical makeup of the glass and it's history. Very good overview of Vaseline/Uranium glass throughout it's history. It could definitely use more photographic examples but the verbage is worthwhile. This is an excellent book for anyone that wishes to learn more about Vaseline glass. I already had some knowledge of the glass, but was very pleased w/ alll the information in the book. It has helped me w/ future decisions on glass purchases. I highly recommend this book!! 9 LED 400 nM UV Ultra Violet Blacklight Flashlight 3AAA, 7301UV400ReviewsNo complaints at all after owning this UV flashlight for over 3 weeks. I primarily use it to check ID's and high currency for their invisible markings. Would recommend it to a friend if they were looking for an inexpensive and reliable flashlight. I bought this product to find where my puppy was peeing in the house. I received it very fast and it worked great until my son thought it would be funny to put it in a sink full of water.... So needless to say I need to buy another one. But I think it is a great product for the price. I purchased this to locate cat urine around my sizable one bedroom apartment. Overall, I'm happy with it. It is small (about the length of my cell phone) and that shocked me. Because of its size, I wouldn't recommend it for large places with long walls that you hope to scan quickly. But, for my purposes it was perfect. Even in dim light the beam was bright enough to clearly locate urine markings on the walls. It has a push button at the back which you press to turn on and off. It's not made from a heavy rubber (it's a lightweight cheap-y metal) so I would be careful about dropping it. I ordered this UV light to look for traces of dog & cat urine in my home. I have tried everything from shampooing carpets to using all those dusty powders on them. I heard that a UV light can pick up on the stains of old & new traces of urine. While my bathroom glowed like a night light, my carpets did very little. I even took a potty pad that has fresh urine on it, took it into my bathroom & closed the door so there was absolutely no trace of light - & the spot never glowed atall. To use this light, or any other UV light for that matter, you need absolute darkness. There were spots in the bedrooms that glowed very faintly, but you basically had to get on your hands & knees to see it. Overall, for tile & wood floors, this light works amazingly - but as far as carpets, you're better off ordering something stronger. Not as bright as I hoped it would be, even in a completely dark room. However, it's very handy and very inexpensive, so still a great bargain. Average Rating: |

395 nM UV Ultra Violet 21 LED Blacklight Flashlight, 7305UV395ReviewsI got this light to replace a non-LED light we used to detect pet and other organic stains. The light is bright and works very well. The animal rescue I wanted liked it so much they ordered a few too! I love this little flashlight. It is constructed very well and is wicked bright. I enjoy playing with it. Purchased it for Christmas and I'm still on the initial batteries. I would definitely reccomend this light to anyone interested in UV. These are 395 nm UV lights. They are about at the end of the spectrum of UV light and moving into white light. The lower the nm the better the UV detection. All 395 to 400nm UV emit too much white or visible light and are close to useless. 375nm and lower are better at detection but harder to find. A single led UV rated at 375nm will out perform a 51 led rated at 395nm. I shopped all over for a good black light for hunting scorpions in the dark. This little number puts out a great beam to spot those little buggers in the dark. They glow like you wouldn't believe. This was the very best value of all those I looked at. A friend bought one that cost three times more and is no better It is a great UV flashlight. Made of metal, bright, not to small, yet not to big. The one problem with mine is that sometimes it doesn't turn on when i press the button on the back of the light, it takes me about 7-10 clicks for it finally to activate, maybe a loose wire, I don't know. Also its more of a blacklight you would find in a UV Party minigolf place or something, doesn't show everything that I think should be there. Overall its a good sturdy light.
