Uplight Lamp with Crackle Glass Shade Uplight Lamp with Crackle Glass Shade

With any "via mail" purchase of an item that is partially made of glass there is a chance of it arriving broken. However, when my first one did,it was an opportunity to see how well Amazon/Target/UPS were on customer service. It all went very smoothly and my second one arrived in good condition and very quickly (withing a day or two of reporting the first came damaged). UPS picked up the broken one I was returning from my front door with no problems and no charge. Amazon did all the arranging of that so I didn't have to bother with it. As for the lamp itself, I am very pleased with the glass is opaque which hides the bulb inside from all angles except the top and my only wish is that there was some type of cover for the top so that I wouldn't have to worry about dust settling inside it around the bulb/socket. I love the 3 brightness settings and the touch on and off and brightness level base is So nice and easy to use especially in the dark. It was slightly larger than I imagined standing 10" tall and approximately 5-5 1/2" across the dia of the top with the base another 1/2 to 1" larger than that. Style wise it is a good mix of classy and simple at the same time. I bought mine for a bedside lamp and I'm loving it... Especially for the price, it is a wonderful purchase. Thinking of buying another.

I had a similar lamp before which gave out. This one looks just about the same but is somewhat bigger and also more expensive. It fits the bill, though.

I love this lamp. The touch sensor is so convenient. It gives a room the perfect ambience. Two downsides: A previous customer was right about the energy efficient light bulbs not working too well with this lamp. Also, both of my lamps have large cracks (as if it had been dropped on wood or tiled floor) in the actual "crackle glass" shade. Obviously the crackle glass is part of the lamp, but the large noticeable crack is not. It hasn't affected the quality of the lamps, but it is a slight annoyance.

I had this lamp for about 5 years and love it. However, there is one big problem. The lamp doesn't work well with energy bulbs. The type of bulbs that last for a couple years and use less energy. When used with this type of bulb the lamp makes a high pitched sound that is annoying. I have another touch floor lamp that does the same thing. So I think it is just how touch lamp work that make them not so good with energy bulbs. If you don't mind using standard bulbs this lamp is great.

I bought this lamp at Home Depot and after using it a couple of days the "turn off" feature stopped working (it is supposed to turn on/off by touching the metal base). The only way to turn it on or off now is with a wall switch. Beware!

These lights are perfect for our needs, small dots so that company will see where our gate is located. The only draw back is that the auto on and off works only when it feels like it but is generally on at dusk when we need it! Not a problem worth sending them back.

My wife loves these lights I added to our little garden in the backyard. I'm glad I bought these rather than the power tool set for holiday. :-)

Your Home A Living Canvas: Create Stunning Faux Finishes & Murals with Paint Your Home A Living Canvas: Create Stunning Faux Finishes & Murals with Paint

Being "the lavish cheapskate," I am always seeking books that will extend living "lavishly," yet cheaply. I have purchased many books on decorative and faux painting, but this one goes far beyond what I expected. The author does amazing work and gives numbered lists of what's necessary for projects-- if you are a seeker of inspiration and ideas, this book is great-- but if you are venturing into doing the projects, the author gives the details on how to do it (plus complimentary suggestions to enhance projects). With beautiful pictures, descriptions, and lists of the materials necessary for each project, this book not only gives great ideas that extend far out of the box, it inspires your own creativity... Highly recommended!

I highly recommend this book to anyone. In my opinion as a decorative artist, "Your home a living canvas", is a rare treasure in that it is both inspirational and instructional. The finishes and murals in this book are a treat for the eyes and spirit in that they are born from a profound desire to beautify the most important place in the world... your own personal interior environment! This book is filled with passion, wonderful photos, instructional steps, and my favorite...color photos of the exact color palletes used! I own five or six books on decorative painting and am very choosy. A good book should be one that you can pick up again and again and gain new inspiration and knowledge every time. If you are looking exceptional, buy this book and keep it close! Johanna Annable

I got it because it was paired with The House that Faux Built The House That Faux BuiltI defn liked the House that Faux Built Better because it gave incredible before and after photos and ideas for every surface of every room. (It's more an idea book than a how to) but I esp liked the basement redo (pictured on the cover) because it is a very male room and makes you wish for a cigar and a conac--just like my basement they had 6.5 foot ceilings and they painted the ceiling black--I am doing a version of it in my own basement. This book (Your Home a Living Canvas) was ok but I gave it 2 stars because the finishes were way too feminine for my taste and it just didn't live up to the hype in the writeup. I also bought at the same time (and really liked) Gary Lord's bookGreat Paint Finishes for a Gorgeous Home It also had some really great photos and a lot of variety- and gave more detail

I think a superior title for this 2008 work would have been "MY Home, A Living Canvas." The author, Curtis L. Heuser, is a decorative artist and has taken a large old fixer-upper in Newport, Kentucky (just south of Cincinnati, Ohio), transforming this originally decrepit structure into a gigantic, dynamic artwork. Every room is decorated throughout in breathtaking art, murals in most cases and I found it all to be brilliant, tasteful, and in a few instances, even disturbing. Mr. Heuser's skill in this realm is unassailable. I have done some of this sort of decorating over the years, albeit very primitively, and these processes are not nearly as easy as the author makes them appear. If you are a skilled artist, you could possibly effect these dramatic scenes and details -- otherwise, you'll find it frustrating to replicate the author's intricate work. To his credit, Heuser has revealed all of his trade secrets. He offers complete lists of required materials and media, complete and clearly-written instructions, and he has included plenty of nicely-photographed color illustrations. The key facet of Heuser's exquisite work is illusion, much in parallel with the art of the typical stage magician. In fact, I would characterize Heuser as an "art magician" and, I think, be fully justified in having done so. Throughout the book I was reminded of the art of the famous surrealist Salvador Dali, among others. Heuser's monochromatic murals are especially awe-inspiring and I found that the author's commentary and illustrations on housing personal collections and using glass in the home décor were particularly enlightening and tasteful. He has also cleverly incorporated old world furniture into his interior home design method. In summary, I doubt that most folks who purchase this book will actually attempt to recreate the magnificence which the author has achieved in his Newport home -- but he has told us precisely how to do it and the book would additionally make an appropriate gift for someone whose tastes run to fine art.

Absolutely loved this book! His directions are great and the pictures are wonderful. Totally transform your home into another era, with his ideas. I used the worn brick look in my kitchen and get raves from the people who come over and see it.

Collectors Guide To Crackle Glass Collectors Guide To Crackle Glass

Reviews

An excellent reference book with lots of nice color photos. A must have for collectors.

Just reading the page preview permitted by Amazon to determine if you want to order the book, I see misinformation. "Probably Blenko" doesn't show a lot of research. One piece of glass marked "probably Blenko" is Kanawha and is in their old catalogs. I have one in green and another in brown. I do give kudos to the authors for actually interviewing the folks at Hamon Glass. And the spelling for the owners of Kanawha should be Merritt.

The bottom line on this book is that it is a " must have " for anyone that is interested in glass period. The pictures are very well done along with the knowledge of crackle glass. It is hard to believe that this is the first book ever on the subject. I will buy the two others right away! Stan and Arlene Weitman , thank you .

When I first flipped through this book, I thought it showed some promise. Now having gone through it page by page I've come to realize how wrong it is to judge a book by it's cover(or flipping through it in this case). To say this book is full of mistakes is an understatement. In fact since going through this book I think it can be blamed for a fair amount of misidentified crackle glass on the internet. There are so many misidentified pieces I couldn't list them in the space alloted. I understand that guide books are simply that, but the fact of the matter is most folks will quote from them as gospel. The images (large amount of cruets) are very repetative. After a while they all seem to run together in a mismash of misidentified Blenko, Rainbow, Pilgrim et. al. Save your money, buy the Leslie Pina books, while they aren't perfect either, they are a heck of a lot better than this "guide book". While Pina's books are not cheap, you know what the saying is "you get what you paid for". I really wish I had not paid for this book.

This book provides a wonderful display of crackle glass with vibrant photographs and detail. It provides information to help the collector assess the value in regards to color and type of crackle glass. A wonderful addition to the Weitman's first book on crackle glass. I would like to see more unique pieces. There is repetitive glass in this book, however they differ slightly and do offer valuable information. A wonderful book for the beginner as well as advanced collector. Five stars!
